KIPP: Charlotte opened its doors to students in 2007. During the first academic year the students and faculty at KIPP Charlotte worked incredibly hard and saw significant progress and academic success. In the academic year of 2007 / 2008 KIPP Charlotte:
- Had over 90% attendance rate
- Was designated a school of high growth by the State of North Carolina
- Students entered 5th grade in the 25th percentile in reading and grew to the 55th percentile on the Stanford 10 test
- Saw students entering the 5th grade in the 35th percentile in math and grow to the 66th percentile on the Stanford 10 test
- Saw students entered the 5th grade in the 30th percentile in science and grow to the 60th percentile on the Stanford 10 test
- Saw students grow nine points on the EOG (End of Grade test).
- This significant growth seen at KIPP: Charlotte is almost double the average growth across the State of North Carolina
- 100% of parents who have a child attending KIPP: Charlotte stated they would recommend the school
- 95% of parents stated that KIPP: Charlotte has had a positive influence on their children's behavior outside of school

Here at KIPP: Charlotte we are incredibly proud of the students and the significant improvements they have worked so hard to achieve.

| KIPP: Charlotte Visits Washington, D.C. |
In May 2008, 52 students of KIPP: Charlotte's founding 5th grade class paid a visit to Washington, D.C. Students who displayed excellent behavior and strong character earned this five day field trip. During the trip, students experienced the Capitol and the colleges in the area. The students toured George Washington University, Georgetown University and Howard University. The theme of the field trip was 'figures of history who died for the right to an education and for freedom.' Students paid visits to The Thomas Jefferson National Memorial, The Constitutional Gardens, the Korean and Vietnam War Veterans Memorials, The Smithsonian Museum and the President Lincoln Memorial. The purpose of this field trip was to illustrate to students that if they work hard, anything is possible. No shortcuts. No excuses. KIPP: Charlotte has high expectations for our students and it is important that students hold the same expectations for themselves and learn that hard work pays off.
Students were asked to discuss what these historic figures were fighting for and whether it was worth it. Throughout the week, the students' reflections were inspiring. The students learned that many people have suffered for the right to an education, the right to vote and civil rights. The students became very aware of the importance of education in promoting social change and equality. The school plans on replicating this trip at the end of this school year and we desperately need gracious donors to underwrite the trip. If you would like to help these fine young students visit our nation's capital, please contact Amanda Prothero at aprothero@kippcharlotte.org or (980) 297-3679.
