KIPP: Charlotte News
Knowledge is Power Program
Dear Reader,
The End of Grade (EOG) tests took place this week.  Every morning the PRIDE started the day with songs designed to inspire confidence in their ability to score 4's across the board.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of KIPP Charlotte over the past year.  We appreciate you.

The staff at KIPP Charlotte would particularly like to thank the Parent Alliance for spoiling us during teacher appreciation week.  We appreciate the appreciation.

Regards

KIPP Charlotte
It's Raining Calculators!
PET Logo
KIPP Charlotte owes PET Dairy  a million THANK YOU'S . The generous
folks at PET Dairy donated 200 calculators to the school.  Not only did
PET donate the calculators, they relentlessly searched for the specific
calculators the math teachers had requested, the T I -15.

When asked why these particular calculators were so important for our
students, Mr. Sparks replied:

"These calculators are perfect for 5th and 6th grade students who are
beginning Geometry/Pre-Algebra. Students have the opportunity to explore
pre-algebraic concepts while not feeling overwhelmed just yet by
graphing and scientific functions.

Also, the calculators themselves are quite expensive, therefore I'm not
sure if we had the resources to ensure that every student had
one...having them donated ensured that every student was taken care of
and cared for. It also enables students to compete on the same level as
all other students across the state who will be taking a similar test.

It's great to send the message to the kids that they're cared for, we've
got their back, and we want only the best for them...including one of
the top calculators".

Jordy Sparks, 6th Grade Math Teacher.

PET Dairy we thank you!

 The Women's Impact Fund Honors
KIPP Charlotte
wif

KIPP Charlotte is honored to have been selected as a grant recipient of The Women's Impact Fund.  KIPP Charlotte was awarded $100,000.00 to cover salaries and supplies for the extended day, week and year program.

The purpose of The Women's Impact Fund is to maximize women's leadership in philanthropy by engaging and educating our membership, increasing charitable contributions and strengthening communities through the impact of collective giving.

KIPP Charlotte was in good company. Four fellow non-profit organizations were rewarded for the great work they are doing in our community. Other recipients included United Family Services, North Carolina Dance Theatre, Community Health Services and American Forests.  Collectively, The Women's Impact Fund donated over $400,000.00 to these local non-profit organizations.

KIPP Charlotte is honored and proud to have such tremendous support in the community.

Thank you for supporting the PRIDE!

professional growth. This is a new city, new school, and new grade for
me. I look forward to becoming part of the KIPP Charlotte community and
look forward to pushing the kids one more step towards their ultimate
goal: attending the college of their choice, empowering them to be

Today we would like to tell you about Brianna, a 6th grader here at KIPP Charlotte.  Brianna joined the PRIDE of 2015 in 2007 and entered 5th grade reading at a 4th grade level.  Brianna has shown hard work and determination for the past two years  and is now reading at an 8th grade level.

Every chance she gets, Brianna reads (even during recess).  Brianna's favorite book right now is Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen.
