| Dear Amanda, |
Everyone at KIPP: Charlotte hopes that great things come your way in 2009.
The students and teachers are back in school and ready to work hard. Please feel free to come and visit the school, read to a student or become a mentor. 'It takes a village', and we need your help.
The Knowledge is Power Program is making a huge impact across the United States of America. The KIPP Foundation recently released 'A Year in Review', a summary of the successes of KIPP schools across the nation. You can read the review here.
We thank you for showing support and kindness to the school and the students we serve. As we enter historic times, it is crucial that we teach our students to be first class leaders that personify service, excellence, integrity, courage and passion for learning.

Take a Walk in the Deciduous Forest |
The 5th grade science book reports were outstanding this quarter. Over the winter break students prepared for a new unit by reading books about major ecosystems and biomes around the world. Students had to complete 6 out of 10 various activities about the books they chose. A few highlights: Tondalaya's ten-questions to an African Elephant about the grasslands were excellent. Kaylan made a convincing travel brochure for the Arctic Tundra. Michaela interviewed a monkey about the rainforest, and Jamese wrote a poem about the deciduous forest. It's no surprise that Mr. Pomis' students earn great grades. A Walk in the Deciduous Forest
By Jamese
Lots of water and warmness Many animals in the deciduous forest See the bobcats, see the rabbits See all of the animals find tasty food Watch the oak trees grow See the tiny creatures eat Hidden birds, hide from their predators Caterpillars turn into new butterflies Woodpeckers look for food Owls honoring their parents Weasels looking for a mouse Snakes shed to look shiny Raccoons rinsing their food Bears are eating fish and nuts Geese paddle across the lake Acorns grow during autumn Raccoons, bears, and squirrels don't hibernate The forest has a lot more to see... |
