| Dear Reader, |
Words cannot express how exciting it is at KIPP Charlotte right now. You can feel it in the air as you walk through the school. Parents stop and comment on how they sense the success and growth throughout building. Guests are overwhelmed with joy when they view the students hard at work, hands consistently raised with energy and excitement to answer questions. Great things are happening right before our very eyes and there is no place any of us would rather be.
Join the KIPP Charlotte family and become a volunteer, a reading buddy, a donor, a mentor or a champion for the cause as we move into the new school year ready to succeed!
Kind regards,
KIPP Charlotte

Summer School Success
|
We have just wrapped up a hugely successful summer school and we are thrilled with the progress of each and every student. The new 5th graders, the PRIDE of 2017, have taken to KIPP Charlotte like ducks to water. They are focused and ready to feel successful. On the first day of summer school, the new 5th graders came wearing white t-shirts. Throughout the first few days students earned the right to wear their KIPP Charlotte shirts.
So far, 2017 has learned about Ubuntu "I am who I am because of what we all are," along with the core values of the school: service, excellence, integrity, passion, courage and leadership.
The 6th graders - the PRIDE of 2016 - chose the theme of 'community'. What makes KIPP Charlotte a community? How do we build or break trust? What do team work, compassion and grit look like? 2016 will address all of these questions throughout the year and work together, as a community, to encourage its peers and teachers to emulate these all important traits.
The PRIDE of 2015, the founding class at KIPP Charlotte - are now 7th graders and are already thinking about high school. This year, 2015 will add Technology, Spanish, Algebra 1 and Chorus to its list of classes. 2015 chose the theme of "Transformers - more than meets the eye." 2015 is determined that this year will be one of transformation into fine scholars, proving that there is indeed more to 2015 than what some people see.

KIPP Charlotte High School Placement
by Emily Kronemeyer
|
As the Director of High School Placement, my job is to work with our KIPP Charlotte team to make sure our students' academic dreams come true and our students attend the best high schools possible, -here in Charlotte and across the United States.
I work with the students, their families, and high school personnel to find the best fit for each child to be successful and meet their goals of going to college. I teach a High School Placement class to our Pride on the different options, requirements, and tools they will need to be successful, as well as meet with them and their families to evaluate our goals and plans for their high school path.
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
*Let us know if you would be willing to come speak to our students about your alma mater(s)-both high school and college.
*Be a "mock interviewer." Later this year we will be holding mock interview days where students will practice their interview skills.
*Help build our network! Email me with any contact information of someone you know who works at an excellent high school.

KIPP Charlotte Wins Award!
|
Since opening with its first class of 90 fifth graders in the summer of 2007, KIPP Charlotte has grown significantly. Adding one grade per year, 270 new and returning students in grades five through seven now walk the hallways of KIPP Charlotte. The school plans to add one more grade next year to become a fully-functioning middle school, serving approximately 360 students in grades five through eight. The founding staff of 5 has now grown to 25 teachers and other staff members.
To celebrate this steady expansion, GrowCharlotte.org has honored KIPP Charlotte with the "Up and Comer" award for job creation. "In these hard economic times it is wonderful that KIPP Charlotte can create so many new jobs for teachers and staff. We are proud to partner with such an amazing organization that is helping to build Charlotte's future and provide high-quality education for all children," said Jim Povec, Director of Grow Charlotte.
"We have a long way to go before we close the education gap that exists in the wonderful city of Charlotte. But by working with supportive organizations like GrowCharlotte.org, we are one step closer," said Keith Burnam, Founder and School Leader of KIPP Charlotte.
